Primary School Sought for Groundbreaking Year 3 Health Education Pilot

Health campaigner and musculoskeletal specialist Carrie Ransom is appealing to headteachers and PE teachers interested in becoming part of a pioneering pilot programme designed for Year 3 pupils.

Drawing on the principles contained in her book, Break Your Bad Habits Before Your Aches and Pains Break You, the project combines animation and physical education to help children understand the importance of healthy movement habits, posture and physical wellbeing from an early age.

Carrie spent more than 25 years helping clients with musculoskeletal problems after beginning her career within the NHS. Throughout her work, she has championed the belief that prevention is better than cure and that educating people early in life about healthy movement could help reduce the impact and cost of preventable health conditions in later years.

She is now seeking a forward-thinking primary school willing to work with her on a pilot programme aimed at making these concepts fun, memorable and accessible for children.

The project is being supported by Colchester Film Makers, a voluntary community film club that has championed Carrie's work since 2024. The club has produced a pilot animation demonstrating the concept and will document the development of the programme as part of an ongoing record of the initiative.

Participating schools would be asked to obtain parental consent and permission for any pupils involved in filming.

A separate documentary, Colchester in the 2020s – Episode 1 – Carrie Ransom, explores Carrie's background and philosophy, charting her journey from musculoskeletal specialist to health educator and advocate for preventative healthcare.

The documentary provides more background on how Carrie's clinical experience led to the preventative philosophy behind the campaign. The Year 3 pilot is the next stage to that work, using animation, movement and physical education to make those ideas engaging and memorable for children.

Carrie said:

"Children are never too young to begin learning how to look after their bodies. If we can make these lessons engaging and enjoyable through animation and movement, we have an opportunity to encourage healthy habits that could remain with them throughout their lives. Prevention has always been at the heart of my work, and I would love to partner with a school willing to help bring these ideas to the next generation."

Headteachers, PE coordinators and schools interested in exploring the opportunity are invited to express interest using the Contact Form or by email Carrie@breakyourbadhabits.co.uk
