Privacy Policy
Last updated: 27 August 2026
Break Your Bad Habits respects your privacy and is committed to protecting the personal information you share with us.
This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect through breakyourbadhabits.co.uk, why we collect it, how we use it and your rights under UK data protection law.
1. Who we are
Break Your Bad Habits is a health education and awareness campaign led by Carrie Ransom.
The website breakyourbadhabits.co.uk is managed on behalf of the campaign by Vocal Freedom Productions (VFP).
For the purposes of UK data protection law, Break Your Bad Habits / Carrie Ransom is responsible for deciding how personal information submitted through the campaign website is used.
Vocal Freedom Productions provides website management and administrative support and may have access to information submitted through the website where necessary to provide those services.
For questions about this Privacy Policy or how your personal information is handled, please contact:
Carrie Ransom: Carrie@breakyourbadhabits.co.uk
2. Information we may collect
We may collect personal information when you:
contact Carrie through a form on the website;
express an interest in the schools pilot or campaign;
sign up to receive campaign updates;
identify yourself as a teacher, school, health or education professional, supporter or other interested party;
make an enquiry or offer support; or
contact us directly by email.
Depending on the form you use, this may include:
your name;
your email address;
your school or organisation name;
the type of organisation or supporter you represent;
information you choose to include in a message; and
your communication preferences.
We may also receive limited technical information relating to use of the website, such as browser or device information and cookie data, where applicable.
3. How we use your information
We may use your personal information to:
respond to enquiries;
communicate with schools and individuals interested in the Breaking Bad Habits educational pilot;
provide information about the campaign and its progress;
respond to offers of professional, educational or community support;
administer subscriptions to campaign updates;
manage correspondence relating to donations or support;
improve and operate the website; and
meet any legal or regulatory obligations.
We will only use your personal information for the purpose for which it was collected, or for another compatible purpose permitted by law.
4. Email updates
If you actively subscribe to campaign updates, we may send you occasional emails about the progress of Break Your Bad Habits, the educational programme, animation project and related campaign activity.
Where consent is the appropriate legal basis, you can withdraw that consent at any time.
You can unsubscribe from campaign emails at any time by using any unsubscribe option provided or by contacting:
Carrie@breakyourbadhabits.co.uk
We will not sell your email address or provide it to other organisations for their own marketing.
5. Our lawful basis for using your information
Under UK data protection law, we must have a lawful basis for processing personal information.
Depending on the circumstances, we may rely on:
Consent — for example, where you choose to subscribe to email updates.
Legitimate interests — for example, where you contact us about the campaign and we need to use your details to respond to you or continue that correspondence.
Legal obligations — where we need to retain or disclose information to comply with a legal requirement.
6. Children’s privacy
The Breaking Bad Habits educational project is intended to benefit children, including Year 3 pupils. However, the contact forms, campaign sign-up facilities and donation facilities on this website are intended for adults, including parents, carers, teachers, schools, education professionals and supporters.
We do not knowingly ask children to provide their personal information through these forms.
Children should not submit their name, email address, school information or other personal information through this website without the involvement of a parent, carer, teacher or other responsible adult.
If we become aware that personal information has been submitted directly by a child when it was not appropriate for us to collect it, we will take reasonable steps to delete it.
7. Schools and the pilot programme
Schools or teachers interested in participating in the Breaking Bad Habits pilot may provide contact information through the website.
Initial enquiries should contain the contact details of the adult representative of the school, rather than personal information about individual pupils.
If a school later participates in a filmed pilot, workshop or other activity involving children, any necessary privacy information, permissions, safeguarding arrangements and consent procedures will be dealt with separately before participation.
8. Donations and PayPal
The website may provide a link to PayPal so that supporters can make donations.
Payments are processed by PayPal and not directly by Break Your Bad Habits. We do not receive or store your full debit card, credit card or banking details.
PayPal may provide us with information associated with a transaction, such as a donor's name, email address, amount donated and transaction details.
PayPal processes information under its own terms and privacy policies. We recommend reviewing those policies when using its service.
9. YouTube and external websites
The website contains links to, and may display content from, third-party services such as YouTube.
When you follow an external link or interact with embedded third-party content, that provider may process information about your visit in accordance with its own privacy and cookie policies.
Break Your Bad Habits is not responsible for the privacy practices of third-party websites.
10. Cookies and similar technologies
This website may use cookies and similar technologies necessary for the website to operate correctly.
Some third-party content or website functionality may also use cookies or similar technologies.
Where cookies or technologies require consent under UK law, they should not be activated until you have made your choice through the website's cookie controls.
You can also control or delete cookies using your browser settings.
11. Who we share information with
We do not sell personal information.
We may use trusted service providers where necessary to operate the website and campaign, including providers of:
website hosting and website-building services;
email and communications services;
website forms;
technical support;
payment services such as PayPal; and
video or media services such as YouTube.
These providers may process information on our behalf or, in some cases, operate as independent data controllers under their own privacy policies.
We may share or provide access to personal information where necessary to operate the campaign and website. This may include Vocal Freedom Productions (VFP), which manages the Break Your Bad Habits website on behalf of the campaign, together with website hosting, email, form, payment and technical service providers.
12. International processing
Some technology providers used by this website may process information outside the United Kingdom.
Where UK data protection law requires safeguards for an international transfer of personal information, we expect the relevant service provider to use an appropriate lawful mechanism for that transfer.
13. How long we keep your information
We keep personal information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purpose for which it was collected.
For example:
general enquiries may be retained while they remain relevant to the campaign;
correspondence with participating schools or partners may be retained for the duration of that relationship and for a reasonable period afterwards;
subscription information may be retained until you unsubscribe or the mailing list is discontinued; and
information that must be retained for legal, financial or administrative purposes may be kept for the period required by law.
When information is no longer required, it will be securely deleted or anonymised where appropriate.
14. Keeping your information secure
We take reasonable steps to protect the personal information entrusted to us against unauthorised access, loss, misuse or disclosure.
However, no internet-based service can guarantee absolute security.
15. Your data protection rights
Depending on the circumstances, UK data protection law gives you rights in relation to your personal information, including the right to:
ask what personal information we hold about you;
ask for inaccurate information to be corrected;
request deletion of your information in certain circumstances;
ask us to restrict how your information is used;
object to certain uses of your information;
withdraw consent where processing is based on consent; and
request a copy of certain information you have provided to us.
To exercise any of these rights, contact:
Carrie@breakyourbadhabits.co.uk
16. Complaints
If you have concerns about how your personal information has been handled, please contact us first so that we have an opportunity to address them.
You also have the right to raise a concern with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), the UK's data protection regulator.
Information about your rights and how to contact the ICO is available at ico.org.uk.
17. Changes to this Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy when the website, campaign or services change or where data protection requirements are updated.
The latest version will always be published on this website with the date of the most recent update shown at the top.
